ALL, THE MEXICO WE LOVE

Common Misconception: Leave Tex Mex at Home

Get your fill of nachos, burritos, and what have you before you get on board that plane, because we are talking fine, authentic cuisine in Mexico.

From the rich moles of Oaxaca to the fine seafoods of the Pacific Mexico City restaurants like the ones helmed by Gabriela Camara have it all (peep this post here); you can find every style of fine Mexican cuisine right in Mexico City. Further proof: check out Eater’s post last week on the “12 Hottest Restaurants in Mexico City Right Now” and Master Chef Rick Bayless’ “Very Idiosyncratic Guide To Some Near-Downtown Mexico City Food-Lovers’ Favorites.

Think fresh juices, delicious mezcal, seafood you’ll be writing home about for days including fresh octopus and perfect slices of tuna, even tacos so pared down but perfectly cooked and seasoned, you’ll never want to say the words “Chipotle” again (okay, we lied – we love Chipotle too).

We’ll give you a taste of what we’re talking with breakfast at Lalo. The specialty Europe-meets-Mexico cafe just across the way from Mexico City mainstay Maximo Bistrot is owned and operated by Eduardo Garcia, and provides a casual alternative to its late night sister restaurant. Our breakfast favorites include the asparagus with hollandaise and poached egg, the croque-madame, made with organic eggs and ham, some simple scrambled eggs over grits with smoked salmon, or even just a perfectly brewed cup of coffee with a pastry. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on the french toast with berries.
